GOSHEN – An audit of Orange County Government’s 2014 fiscal picture shows income and spending were both down.
One issue of concern is the unappropriated fund balance that dropped from approximately $70 million just a few years ago to $20 million to $25 million last year and county legislature Ways and Means Committee Chairman Leigh Benton said that puts the county in a potentially precarious financial situation.
“That number is down significantly from the past, actually from the year 2015 that we are in now, I think we planned on using approximately $20 to $25 million of unappropriated fund balance,” he said.
Benton said the county executive and legislature are working to keep the county’s financial belt tight as the 2016 budgeting process is about to begin in the fall.
