POUGHKEEPSIE – A man with a prior arrest for murder and a 1991 manslaughter conviction was arrested by Poughkeepsie City Police late Thursday for criminal possession of a weapon.
Police located Kareem Brown, 43, of Poughkeepsie when they responded to reports of shots fire in the area of Mansion Street and Winnikee Avenue.
Officers spotted a suspicious man, later identified as Brown, wearing a backpack.  He fled into a building, but came back out when officers approached him. He was detained and a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun was found in the backpack. The weapon was apparently used in the reports of shots fired, police said.
Brown was charge with two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
This is the third incident involving a gun in a week. Last Saturday, a woman dancing at a club was struck in the leg by a ricochet bullet and last Tuesday, a man was shot and killed while in his car.
