State funds increased school access to healthy foods

ALBANY – The state health department is providing funds for area agencies to access healthy local foods and promote daily physical activity in school districts.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County, Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers, Orange County Department of Health and Rockland County Department of Health will reach receive $250,000. 
CCE will use its funding for the Fallsburg, Liberty and Monticello school districts.
The Nepperhan Community Center will use its funding for the Yonkers district.
Orange County Health Department will apply its grant in the cities of Newburgh and Port Jervis.
Rockland County Department of Health will use its funding for the East Ramapo Central School District.
“Poor nutrition and physical inactivity are major risk factors for chronic diseases like obesity that are plaguing New York State,” said State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker.
