Cameron – getting support

NEWBURGH – Lt. Daniel Cameron has been acting Newburgh police chief for the last several months and the issue of hiring a permanent chief is coming to a head.
Some members of the city council have praised Cameron’s work as
acting chief and at Thursday night’s session, Councilwoman Gay Lee
said it is time to name a permanent chief. Her obvious favorite is Cameron.
“We are asking an interim chief to show all of his wares, give us everything he’s got with no decision about his employment and evaluate him based on the work he is doing; he’s doing a good job. We want more from him; we need the best out of him,” Lee said.  “We need to make this appointment.”
Others including Mayor Judy Kennedy have said Cameron is doing an excellent job.
Cameron does not live in Newburgh, which is a requirement of the job, but the council could change that.
The actual appointment of a police chief is the responsibility of the city manager.
