KINGSTON – The Solarize Hudson Valley program to provide community education and group purchasing of solar facilities to power homes and businesses is advancing.
Led by Sustainable Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountainkeeper through their RenewableNY program with funding from NYSERDA, Solarize has been piloting in Kingston and is now rolling out with concentrated workshops and solar open houses in the “hub” communities of Beacon, Warwick, Goshen, Woodstock and Rosendale.
Launch events were held Wednesday evening in Warwick and Goshen, and
are scheduled for Saturday in Beacon, next Monday in Woodstock and next
Wednesday in Rosendale.
Sustainable Hudson Valley Executive Director Melissa Everett said there is financial assistance for homeowners and small businesses looking to go solar.
“People have quoted $25,000 to $30,000 as an upfront cost. You take a third of that off through state incentives,” Everett said. “You take another third off for your federal tax credits. You take off 10 to 15 percent more for the Solarized discount and you are down to under $10,000 in a lot of cases.”
That can be financed or the system can be leased.
