NEW WINDSOR – A full feasibility study
is going to be conducted for a microgrid project at Stewart Airport.

The study would evaluate the potential of a resilient microgrid at the
airport that would also benefit critical facilities in the Town of New
Windsor.

Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation, NRG Energy, Inc., the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Town of New Windsor have
partnered on the study, which will be funded by the New York State Energy
Research and Development Authority through the NY Prize community microgrid
competition.

The state program is a $40 million competition through NYSERDA to help
communities create microgrids that can operate independently in the event
of a power outage.

The Stewart study will be funded by a $100,000 grant to evaluate the feasibility,
benefits and cost.

If the project study is approved, it may be eligible for up to $1 million
for development of detailed designs, and if selected up to $7 million
for construction.
