MONTICELLO – Heroin overdoses are increasing in Sullivan County as they are in the rest of the region.
District Attorney James Farrell said law enforcement continues to battle the scourge on a number of levels.
“We are seeking an increase in overdose deaths of individuals from heroin,” Farrell said, noting that most police departments are now trained in the administration of the overdose miracle drug Narcan. “We have had numerous overdoses. We are going to work very, very hard, and have been working very, very hard to stem the supply. We also need to work on the demand side and make sure that the people who are addicted to these substances get treatment – we know it can be treated, but if it is not treated, in can be deadly.”
Law enforcement across the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions have noted an increase in heroin and other opiate use and the constant battle to stem the tide.
