MONTICELLO – A Rock Hill man has been sentenced in Sullivan County
Court to 16 years in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision
for first-degree rape in connection with an incident in June 2014.

Richard Gonzalez, 51, admitted to having sex with the child.

Gonzales was arrested after a State Police investigation when the child
reported what had happened, shortly after the rape occurred.

“The child victim here was extremely courageous and brave and knew
this adult had done something very wrong and quickly reported it to her
family who took immediate action in notifying the police and bringing
the child to the hospital,” said District Attorney James Farrell.
“Child rapists belong in prison and the sentence handed down today
puts this child rapist exactly where he belongs.”

Gonzales was ordered to register as a sex offender and an order of protection
was issued for the victim.

Executive Assistant DA Meagan Galligan prosecuted the case.
