Job growth flat in the Valley

ALBANY – Job growth in the Hudson
Valley/Catskills for the 12 months ending in May was 0.6 percent, or 4,900.

The largest percentage of growth was in Ulster County with a 1.1 percent
increase. The Orange-Rockland-Westchester region saw 0.9 percent job growth
while Sullivan County saw a 0.5 percent increase in jobs.

Columbia and Greene counties experienced no growth while the Dutchess-Putnam
region lost 0.6 percent of its jobs.

Jobs were added in educational and health services; leisure and hospitality;
other services; and professional and business services.

Job losses were in natural resources, mining and construction; information,
financial activities; and manufacturing.

The government sector shed 1,000 jobs over the period.
