MONTGOMERY – A new research and development facility for Angry Orchard Cider Company broke ground Wednesday at a 60-acre apple orchard in the Town of Montgomery.
Angry Orchard bought the farm from Crist Brothers.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the facility that will be constructed will boost the agricultural industry of the area.
“We think it’s a positive, great project that preserves this apply orchard, which is a beautiful thing to have in our community and having this R&D and tasting facility here is just a perfect fit to what you have as a growing agricultural market in the region,” Neuhaus said.
Angry Orchard, which is expected to open this fall, will receive $175,000
in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits from the state’s
Empire State Development Corporation. The company agreed to hire at least
seven full-time employees through 2018 and invest $9.1 million in the
new facility.
