HIGHLAND MILLS – A 38-year-old Highland
Mills woman has been charged with starving her pet dogs, one of which
died.

The Hudson Valley SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Division in cooperation
with the Town of Woodbury Police, charged Shakine Michel of Redwood Drive
with cruelty to animals and failure to provide proper sustenance. In one
case, a female dachshund named Scrappy lost half of her body weight causing
the death while in captivity.

In another instance, she is charged with neglecting a female poodle named
Sweet Pea. That dog survived and is making a recovery.

Michel was released on an appearance ticket returnable to Woodbury Town
Court.

If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine along
with probation on each count.

The SPCA encourages anyone with information about animal cruelty to call
them at 855-448-2548.
