Family of five escapes fire that destroys Airmont home

AIRMONT – Fire shortly after 4 a.m.
Monday engulfed a home at 6 Dorchester Drive in Airmont. The family of
five, a husband and wife and their three children – ages six, three
and one, escaped the flames uninjured.

The fire, which does not look like it was suspicious in origin, appears
to have started in the garage, Ramapo Police said.

The Tallman Volunteer Fire Department was assisted in putting out the
blaze by Suffern, Spring Valley and Mahwah, New Jersey fire departments.
Rockland Paramedics and Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps. were on standby
in the event of injury.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation
was also called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
