Degliomini: “… every opportunity
to be advantaged by this”
MONTICELLO – A top Empire Resorts official told Sullivan County legislators they are getting a jump on prepping for their Montreign Casino, the only full gaming facility that will go up, for now, in the Catskills and Hudson Valley region.
Executive Vice President Charles Degliomini made one point repeatedly during his 15-minute presentation Thursday during the County Legislature Community and Economic Development Committee meeting.
“We’re not just going to talk the talk; we’re going to walk the walk and try to make sure that this county is presented every opportunity to be advantaged by this,” Degliomini said, emphasizing that means a full commitment to local hiring for construction and employment once the casino is up and running.
Job opportunities starting with construction will be plentiful, he said.
“With that said, the Hudson Valley building and trades guys couldn’t be more supportive and fantastic.”
Another commitment is to recruit women and veterans.
Some preliminary work to prep the site, in Kiamesha, is already underway.
Once a formal license for a casino is granted, Empire Resorts will have two years to complete construction and cut the ribbon. The penalty for failing to meet that deadline is stiff: $50 million.
