ALBANY – State grants are being awarded to groups in Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties to re-entry task forces to coordinate and manage services for formerly incarcerated people to successfully transition back to their communities.
The task forces are designed to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety by supporting community-based programs.
Ulster County, which will receive $100,000 will partner with Family of Woodstock, said District Attorney Holley Carnright.
“We used to have a re-entry program that was paid for through county tax dollars and that had been eliminated from the budget literally years ago. Since then Family of Woodstock and some of the local church groups have been carrying that load without any official help. This grant is going to primarily help Family of Woodstock in that task,” Carnright said.
Dutchess County, which partners with Exodus Transitional Community, will receive $100,000.
The Orange County Probation Department, which partners with RECAP, will receive $141,120.
The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, which partners with Rockland Independent Living Center, will receive $100,000.
The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office will receive $139,680.
