GOSHEN – Rocky’s Law, aimed at protecting animals from abusive owners, will be signed by Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus shortly.  The law would prevent convicted abusers from owning animals.
The law, which was adopted by the county legislature, drew no speakers during a public hearing on Thursday.
“Within the next few weeks we can see this law enacted and out on the street protecting the animals that it was set to protect,” Neuhaus said. I am excited about it. The legislature is excited about it and we look forward to having this in place for the public.”
The plan was shepherded by County Legislator Michael Anagnostakis.
Neuhaus will also sign a local law merging the departments of General Services and Information Technology. The legislature approved the combined department after he proposed it.
Under that consolidation, General Services Commissioner James Burpoe will also become IT commissioner. He has held that position in an acting capacity for the last several months.
