ALBANY – Legislation to create a child care regulatory review task force has passed in the state Assembly. The bill, sponsored by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther (D, Forestburgh), is part of the Assembly’s Families First agenda.
“Child care providers need not be drowned in contradictory or duplicative regulations from multiple state agencies to ensure our children are in a safe, clean, and appropriate child care setting,” she said.
Gunther said providers maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and that often means submitting duplicative or nearly identical paperwork to several agencies. She said in other cases, regulations from one agency to the next are in polar oppositions.
The legislation would create a task force of relevant state agencies to identify ways to streamline and reduce existing requirements, reducing the financial and administrative burden on already-stretched providers.
