POUGHKEEPSIE – Vassar Brothers Medical Center will build a 696,000-square foot, seven-story pavilion with 264 private medical/surgical rooms and 30 critical care rooms.

The planned addition is believed to be the largest construction project in City of Poughkeepsie history

A certificate of need was filed with the state Health Department and once approved, which is expected by the end of the year, groundbreaking is scheduled for May 2016 with completion and occupancy in January 2019.
The total cost of the project is $466 million. Funding will come from private hospital funds and hospital bonds.
“Vassar Brothers Medical Center will transform patient care and the patient and family experience in the Hudson Valley with this project,” said hospital President Robert Friedberg.
The new building on the hospital campus property adjacent to Route 9 and the Hudson River will connect to the existing facility.
Mayor John Tkazyik said the project will serve as a catalyst for economic development.  He said it would provide a stabilizing environment for businesses and homeowners in Poughkeepsie.
“It will play a major role in community revitalization and allow residences access to high-quality healthcare they deserve right here in our community,” Tkazyik said
“This historic undertaking will not only improve the quality of lives for county residents, but will also mark Dutchess County as a leader in the region in patient care,” said County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
An estimated 300 to 400 construction jobs will be created.
Vassar Brothers is the flagship facility of HealthQuest.
