BUCHANAN – Preliminary estimates of
dielectric fluid that leaked into the Hudson River after the May 9 Indian
Point transformer fire amounted to about 3,000 gallons, officials said
Friday.

The failed transformer held 24,000 gallons of the fluid, which acts as
an electrical insulator and coolant inside transformers when they are
operational.

Indian Point owner Entergy said visual observations in the discharge canal
and the river have not indicated significant quantities of the oil. Further
investigation and recovery efforts are continuing at the site.

Environmental personnel have conducted assessments of approximately 25
locations based on Entergy, Coast Guard and state DEC observations regarding
potential oil sheens in the Hudson and have implemented the appropriate
mitigation efforts at a handful of those sites.

Entergy has established a public reporting mechanism for potential fluid
sightings by calling 800-472-6372 or by emailing environment@safesecurevital.com
.

Entergy continues to investigate the cause of the transformer failure.
