$17.9 million in federal, state funds announced for Mid-Hudson affordable housing

ALBANY – Four projects in the Mid-Hudson Valley have been awarded just under $17.9 million in federal and state grants and loans to develop affordable housing.
In Rockland County, the Rockland Housing Action Coalition, Inc. in Nyack will receive a total of $3.6 million for 33 new units at Nyack Point Apartments. The project involves the demolition of an underutilized commercial building, and the new construction of a three-story facility. Nine units will be available to tenants with psychiatric disability with support services provided by Loeb House, Inc.
In Orange County, Occupations, Inc. will be developing 90 units of new housing in the Town of New Windsor and will receive $3.7 million. This project consists of the construction of two three-story buildings with 15 units will be set aside for persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
In Ulster County’s Town of Ulster, Gateway Community Industries, Inc. will receive $5.9 million to develop Ulster Gardens II, 82 new units of housing. This project involves the construction of two three-story buildings with a total of 82 units. A coordinated investment with the state Office of Mental Health, the intergenerational project will provide 56 units of senior housing, one super’s unit, and 25 units of workforce housing, including 20 units for persons with psychiatric disabilities. Gateway Community Industries will provide employment, transportation, counseling, case management, and support services to the disabled residents.
In Dutchess County, The Kearney Realty & Development Group, Inc.
will receive $4.7 million to build 89 units of housing at The Mews at
Hopewell Junction. The project is the construction of six two-story buildings
including 23 units for people with intellectual or development disabilities.
It is a collaboration of State Homes and Community Renewal, the state
Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, and Dutchess County
support services will be provided by Abilities First, Inc.
Statewide, over $141 million in awards were announced to build or preserve 2,160 affordable apartments and are expected to leverage more than $469 million.
