MID-HUDSON – Dry conditions and warm
temperatures have created the perfect storm for brush fires across the
region.

The most severe one, which erupted on Sunday, continued to burn on Monday
along Shwanga Lodge Road and Fire Tower Road in Summitville. The flames
continued to move east toward Route 52 under wind-driven conditions with
an estimated 800 acres scorched.
In Cragsmoor, homes in the area of a large woods fire were evacuated
near Route 52 and Rockanne Drive.

Firefighters have also been battling brush fires in Putnam, Dutchess,
Orange, and Ulster counties.
