KIRYAS JOEL – The draft generic environmental impact statement studying the potential impacts of the annexation of 507 acres of land in the Town of Monroe into the Village of Kiryas Joel was approved by the village board on Friday and is now available for public review and comment.
The more than 600-page document also considers potential impacts from an alternative petition filed with the village and town to annex 164 acres of the same property.
“We appreciate the hundreds of hours that the village board and its advisors have spent working with our planning consultant Tim Miller Associates to ensure that the DGEIS is a thorough and complete review of the potential environmental impacts associated with the annexation petition,” said Kiryas Joel’s Government Relations Coordinator Ari Felberman. “We also want to acknowledge the thoughts and feedback offered by everyone who attended two public scoping sessions hosted by the village and submitted oral and written comments.”
Combined, the village heard from over 100 village and area residents, Felberman said.
The completion of the DGEIS marks the beginning of the state environmental
review comment period. The village board will schedule a public hearing
to solicit comments on the document to be held jointly with the Town of
Monroe. That will be held on June 10 at 7 p.m. in the village.
