TOWN OF WALLKILL –State Police late Friday asked antyone who was
at Plum Point Park in New Windsor on Sunday, April 19 between 4 p.m. and
8 p.m. to contact their Montgomery barracks at 845-457-2388.
This is the latest in the investigation into the death of Vincent Viafore,
46.
Authorities charged Angelika Graswald, 36, with killing her fiancé.
The two were kayaking in the Hudson River in the vicinity of Bannerman’s
Island and Plum Point in New Windsor in the evening of April 19 when Graswald
called 911 to report she and her fiancé, Viafore were kayaking
in separate crafts when they capsized. She was able to get out of the
water, but he was not.
His body has not yet been found, but State Police Troop F Major Patrick Regan said Thursday they have sufficient evidence to charge Graswald with murder.
“She made statements that implicated herself in this crime, enough certainly to have reasonable cause to have made the arrest. A lot of work remains to be done, but we felt there was enough to make the charge,” Regan said.
The suspected cause of death or motive were not revealed by authorities.
Both Viafore and Graswald were residents of Poughkeepsie. Graswald, who also goes by the last names of Lipsa, Maloney and Grasuarde, is a non-American who holds a Latvian passport.
The search for Viafore’s body is continuing.
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler urged anyone who may be on or along the Hudson River to be aware of the potential of discovering the body or other evidence and not to disturb it, but rather just call authorities.
