Newburgh man arrested for illegal gun possession

NEWBURGH – A City of Newburgh man
was arrested early Monday morning after police responded to a report of
shots being fired in the area of the Hummingbird Restaurant at 57 Carpenter
Avenue.

Responding officers stopped several cars leaving the scene, but those
people reported hearing shots although none was in possession of any weapon.

Officers were in the area of 263 First Street looking for witnesses and
suspects when they approached a man later identified as Damali Reynolds,
30, of Newburgh and Officer Carlo Canario spotted a wooden pistol handle
protruding from his rear pants pocket. Reynolds was taken into custody
without incident.

The recovered gun was an unloaded revolver. It was reported stolen from
a residence in Wurtsboro in April 2009.

Thee were no projectiles or shell casings recovered in the area and there
were no reports of injuries during the incident.

Reynolds was charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm and
criminal possession of stolen property as well as unlawful possession
of marijuana.
