POUGHQUAG – The Bodhivastu Foundation, based in Poughquag, is raising funds for earthquake-torn Nepal.
Founded by Adam Friedensohn, a 20-year former resident of Nepal, the not-for-profit group is seeking money. He has close connections to the country and its people as his wife is Nepalese.
None of his family members or friends there was killed in the Saturday disaster; however, their homes were destroyed.
Bodhivastu Foundation is in the process of providing immediate relief to several locations in Nepal coordinating with a partner organization in Kathmandu called the Himalayan Light Foundation.
“We are trying to get initial aid, food and shelter out to the people who are still not able to get into their houses, so we are working directly with on-the-ground movements in Nepal from here,” Friedensohn said.
So far, Friedensohn’s group has raised $20,000 in two days as he said getting money to the victims is the important thing now because there is a need for food.
