KINGSTON – The Ulster County SPCA has an overabundance of dog and cat food and will be giving some of it away.
Community activist and shelter supporter Paul Fowler of Saugerties has been delivering food, donated by retail stores, on a regular basis. His most recent delivery, a pickup truck with 1,500 pounds of food, has brought the SPCA’s supply over the top.
As a result, the SPCA will be giving food away starting today (Saturday), said Executive Director Adam Saunders.
“Our hope is to supply donated food to the public, people that may be in a tight spot financially and may not be able to afford to feed their pets we are looking at a way to prevent the pets here if money is an object by doing our best to provide the food out of the resources that we ourselves are not going to use in the shelter,” he said.
Saunders said they expect to give away food on a monthly basis.
