Potosek: “… two to four month
time period …”

MONTICELLO – The general feeling is optimism among Sullivan County officials six months after the Division of Family Services found itself in disarray largely because of mismanagement of last year’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
After former DFS Commissioner Randy Parker was put on administrative leave, and later fired, the operation has been administered by Acting Commissioner Joe Todora and consultant Dr. William Moon.
County Manager Josh Potosek said during Thursday’s Health and Family Services Committee meeting that they are in no big hurry to name a permanent commissioner.
“I’m thinking more in the two to four month time period, probably, is where we’ll probably have a better idea on what we need, position-wise, to fill,” Potosek said.
The county earlier entered a one-year contract with The Bonadio Group, based in Pittsford NY, for consulting and oversight.
Potosek said that also is making a difference, in a proactive way.
“Not that they’re recommending something and walking away.  They’re also coming back, almost as an audit function, a mini-audit function, to make sure we’re complying with those policies and procedures that have been put in place.”
Potosek said the $150,000 they are paying Bonadio for a year of work is “money well spent.”
