POUGHKEEPSIE – Some 100 people rallied at the Poughkeepsie McDonald’s restaurant on Main Street Wednesday to join in the worldwide call for higher pay and the freedom to join unions.
For workers who took part in the actions, the fight was about ensuring they can meet basic needs in their Fight for $15.
“While the Fight for $15 movement launched a few years ago with fast food workers taking a stand, today, healthcare workers are joining fast food and airport workers, adjunct professors and others to raise a collective voice and call for living wages for all workers,” said Andre Greenberg, a certified nursing assistant at The Pines at Poughkeepsie and a member of 1199 SEIU. “Hard work should pay. No matter who you are or where you’re from, if you work hard, you should be able to make enough money to live a good life and provide a better one for your kids. That’s the key to getting our economy and our families back on track.”
