Tri-municipal sewer district may be dead on arrival

BEACON – A proposed tri-municipal sewer district consisting of the City of Beacon, Town and Village of Fishkill, does not appear likely.
A consultant paid for by Dutchess County recommended the three municipalities form the district operated by a sewer authority, but the Village of Fishkill wants its own oversight, said Beacon Mayor Randy Casale. That is something he can understand.
“I am a believer that as good as everyone wants to consolidate, in the end a lot of people don’t want to give up their own destiny, and I’m not talking about politicians, I am talking about residents,” Casale said.  “They are accountable to us. A sewer authority sometimes, those people are appointed so they are not accountable to anybody, as you see all around.”
As a result of the village’s stance, Casale said the city and town may join forces to handle their solid waste disposal.
