KINGSTON – The Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency is considering a resolution to end garbage roll-off operations to all municipalities beginning next year. That would save the agency $310,000, officials said.
That is not sitting well with town officials.
“We need to remind the UCRRA that it is a public benefit corporation which was established in order for each of our towns to close our landfills and to open transfer stations,” said Rochester Town Supervisor Carl Chipman, president of the county Association of Town Supervisors and Mayors. “I feel that the only options for us to be able to keep our transfer stations open and garbage off our streets will be to ask for flow control to be rescinded in Ulster County if they discontinue servicing our towns.”
The UCRRA will meet in special session later today to consider the resolution.
