EAST FISHKILL – State Assemblyman
Kieran Michael Lalor (R-East Fishkill) Monday called for the State-Up
NY program to be shut down.
His appeal comes after a state report said the program created 76 jobs
while Governor Andrew Cuomo has spent $28 million to advertise the program.
“That’s over $368,000 tax dollars in advertising per job,”
Lalor said. “There’s no way to justify that kind of waste.
We already knew Start-Up NY would cost taxpayers, but now we aren’t
even seeing any jobs.”
Lalor called the program “an expensive gimmick from the beginning.
New York’s economy doesn’t need gimmicks.” He charged
the program was all about “self-promotion” for the governor.
Instead, the lawmaker said the state’s economy needs across-the-board
tax relief.
Lalor said in the area between Albany and Brooklyn, only two companies
have been approved for the program pledging 44 jobs in five years.
The fiscally conservative legislator has introduced legislation to repeal
Start-Up NY.
