WAPPINGERS FALLS – A $14.8 million
loan from the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation will
allow Wappingers Falls to move forward with its plans to upgrade its village
wastewater collection and pumping systems.

The loan is expected to save the village $7.1 million once it is converted
into 30-year, no-interest financing.

Mayor Matthew Alexander said the project will begin with a comprehensive
capital infrastructure investment program involving 12 streets. He said
the program will fund the associated underground infrastructure improvements
in the sanitary collection system. It will also address efficiency and
capacity investments at the sewer plant that is shared by three municipalities,
remove a 100-year-old sewer line that lies at the bottom of a designated
inland waterway and address two pump stations, the mayor said.

EFC recently expanded its interest-free loan program to make infrastructure
projects more affordable for smaller communities.
