SAUGERTIES – A Woodstock man is charged with criminal trespass after he was observed by Saugerties Police driving on the CSX Railroad right-of-way alongside tracks south of Glasco turnpike.
Tristen Vickery, 18, and his 17-year-old female passenger were charged with the misdemeanor.
Police remind people who walk or drive on any portion of the CSX railroad tracks that they are committing a crime.
Trespassing isn’t just illegal; it’s dangerous, said Police Chief Joseph Sinagra. It takes a train traveling 55 mph more than a mile to stop.
“By the time a locomotive engineer sees a person on the tracks, it is too late to stop the train,” Sinagra said, noting the only safe and legal place to cross railroad tracks is at a designated pedestrian crossing.
