GOSHEN – In a continuing effort to consolidate services and save money, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has proposed merging the Department of Information Technology into the Department of General Services.
Since the IT department lost its commissioner some time ago, General Services Commissioner James Burpoe has been managing both departments and Neuhaus wants to formalize the arrangement and merge the two agencies as a means of saving money with one department head.
“It saves on salary and it saves on healthcare and it saves on all the other benefits related to it and we believe at the present time it has been nothing but a success and we are going to continue to look at other departments and evaluate where we can possibly do the same thing and at the same time provide a good service and save some money,” he said.
Neuhaus has already placed Darcie Miller in charge of the Department of Social Services as its commissioner and also named her acting commissioner of Mental Health. The county is considering permanently merging those two departments.
