MIDDLETOWN – The cause of a fire that gutted a home at 43 Commonwealth Avenue in Middletown on March 2 remains undetermined, but city officials are hopeful in the end, what started the fire at the Trinkle family home will be known.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano told the common council on Monday night Orange County investigators continue to look into what started it.
“The preliminary report that came back was that they cannot determine the cause,” DeStefano said.  “We asked them to take another look through Chief Barone.”
City officials have met on a number of occasions about the fire.
“We expressed a lot of concern to Orange and Rockland to about, not only that specific incident, but a number of incidents throughout the city,” the mayor said
O&R spokesman Michael Donovan said while the investigation has not yet been concluded, there is no evidence of a gas leak causing the fire.
