TOWN OF WALLKILL – Route 17 through the heart of the Town of Wallkill will be the main route for people coming northbound to the casino resort to be constructed in Sullivan County. Town officials hope to capture some business from those passing through.
With that in mind, Town Supervisor Daniel Depew wants to recruit a developer of a water park and related amenities, since he said they would provide “a real positive family fun atmosphere” for those on their way to Kiamesha Lake.
“I believe now with the casino traffic going to Sullivan County, which I believe will be a tremendous project with Adelaar and Montreign – I think the folks behind that are really credible and they do a great job, so I think it’s going to be successful, but I think the Town of Wallkill is really positioned in a great spot to be able to have, maybe a conference center, indoor water park, not just the hotels we have here right now, but some other family entertainment connections to those hotels,” he said.
Depew said he would work with the Orange County Partnership for Economic development and regional organizations in an effort to educate those in the industry as to the benefits of creating a facility in his town.
