POMONA – Transport of Rockland (TOR)
will be adding smaller, 25-foot buses on its TOR Loops #1, #2 and #3 beginning
Monday, March 9. Four 19-passenger vehicles will be used for a one-year
pilot program on smaller bus routes.

They will be provided by the county’s TOR bus vendor, Brega Transport,
at no cost to the county. All of the other existing TOR buses will remain
in the fleet.

The pilot program is part of the county’s overall fleet management
plan, which was put into place to address long-term maintenance issues
and to evaluate the use of smaller vehicles as part of the county feet.

If the pilot program proves successful, the department will consider incorporating
smaller buses into future bus purchases.

Officials said some of the anticipated benefits of the smaller vehicles
include increased efficiency and flexibility, improved cost-effectiveness
due to lower cost of vehicles and fuel usage and improved customer satisfaction.

The new, smaller vehicles will have the same electronic LED destination
signage, wheelchair lifts and fare boxes as the larger buses.
