Mount Vernon gang member sentenced in fatal shooting

WHITE PLAINS – One of the individuals who formed the core of Mount
Vernon’s most violent street gang, GMG, was sentenced Tuesday to
28 years in state prison on his guilty plea to manslaughter and criminal
possession of a weapon.
Tyron McCallum, also known as “Yayo,” 27, of Mount Vernon, in the shooting deaths of three men who were shot and killed on Mount Vernon city streets within a space of six hours on March 11, 2012.
Three other men, who pled guilty on related charges, will be sentenced in the future.
“By our targeting these gangs, the City of Mount Vernon has seen its gun violence homicides reduced dramatically,” said Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore. “Mount Vernon is now a safer place for all its citizens, some of the same citizens that allowed both DA investigators and city detectives to develop their trust and confidence thus allowing witnesses to come forward, resulting in these defendants being held accountable.”
