STORMVILLE – A West Hempstead man has been remanded to the Dutchess
County Jail in lieu of bail on a charge of felony promoting prison contraband
for attempting to enter Green Haven Correctional Facility with a razor
blade.
Norman Gonzalez, 49, was arrested on Friday, February 20 following an investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the Poughkeepsie barracks. Department of Corrections and Community Supervision staff detained Gonzalez when he tried to gain entry with the weapon.
Gonzalez was convicted previously on a charge of criminal sale of a controlled substance and was sentenced to six years to life in prison. He was paroled in 1998 and was discharged from community supervision in 2001.
He was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
