NEW PALTZ – The local company planning to build a $75 million family resort near the Thruway in New Paltz has filed a Brownfield Cleanup Program application with the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
Mega Funworks, which also operates Rocking Horse Ranch in Highland and Splash Down Water Park in Fishkill, is owned by Steven Turk. He believes all the pieces of the process to build his Wildberry Lodge will come together in a year.
“First we are preparing to submit our draft environmental impact statement. All of this information will be submitted,” Turk said.  “We can’t do anything until we receive the approval of the Town of New Paltz Planning Board, which is the lead agent on this project.”
The boutique destination hotel will feature 250 rooms, a conference center,
fine dining, climbing, zip lines, bowling alley, ice skating, fitness
spa, tennis, and a trademarked “adventure concierge.”
Turk hopes to secure all approvals and break ground in a year.
The environmental remediation on what was historically a commercial orchard, would remove among other chemicals, trimethylbenzene, arsenic, DDT and lead.
