TOWN OF WALLKILL – The Wallkill Golf Course will be operated by a private company when it opens this spring.
The town hired Wallkill Hospitality, a subsidiary of the company that runs the Falkirk Golf Course in Central Valley. Barry Fixler and his partner, Wayne Corts own the company that runs the Falkirk Golf Club and the subsidiary that will now run the Wallkill club.
Its general manager is no stranger to Wallkill. William Cummings is a former town supervisor.
“To me it’s a homecoming. In 1992 I was at the Wallkill Golf Course so it is a homecoming to me,” Cummings said during Friday’s announcement.
The company will run the 18-hole facility under a three-year contract in which the town is expected to be paid a minimum of $82,000 per year.
Town DPW Commissioner Louis Ingrassia said it will be “a seamless transaction.”
Town Supervisor Daniel Depew said all income derived after expenses will be applied to pay down the $2 million debt the golf course still owes since it opened in 1991.
