KINGSTON – The Appellate Division of
State Supreme Court has affirmed the conviction of a man forburglary.
Jason Campo pled guilty in June 2013 to the violent felony.
His conviction stems from an incident in May 2012 when Wiley Faison and he forced open a sliding glass door at a Tillson residence while the homeowners were on vacation. When they returned they found they had been burglarized and that thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, some of which were irreplaceable family heirlooms, had been taken.
Campo, as a second felony offender, was sentenced in Ulster County Court to seven years in state prison and five years of parole and he was ordered to pay $134,000 in restitution to the victims.
On appeal, he challenged his waiver of appeal on the grounds that it was not knowingly, voluntary and intelligently entered. He also maintained his sentence was harsh and excessive.
The appellate court rejected all arguments.
