KINGSTON – Before Ulster County moves forward with possible plans to demolish the former county jail in Kingston is to conduct a feasibility study into the future uses of the land.
County Executive Michael Hein, who proposed taking down the building, said analysis will be performed first.
“That is to make sure that it makes the most sense. You are going to have to weigh and balance the cost of taking down the structure that is really designed to never come down with the benefit that comes on the other side,” Hein said. “We are looking to be able to outline that process and do see the feasibility study sometime in the next three months.”
County officials want to be sure that the property could be prepared as
shovel-ready for future development by the private sector.
