WASHINGTON – US Senator Charles Schumer has not been a New York State legislator for 34 years, but he commented Wednesday about the situation facing Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, a fellow Democrdat.
Silver was arrested last week by federal authorities on corruption charges. Schumer said it is time to move past it.
“It’s a sad day for Speaker Silver, it’s a sad day for New York, and now the state and the legislature have to move on to make the state as good as it could be,” Schumer said.
Assembly Democrats are expected to select a new leader in the next several weeks.
