NEWBURGH – City Manager Michael Ciaravino has a plan to make Newburgh a safer community.
Community involvement would play a key role in his effort to turn the city’s mean streets around.
“Under that umbrella would be the relationship building with our community, relationship building with our ministries, developing and expanding our auxiliary police forces,” Ciaravino said. “We have been meeting almost every Friday to talk about the auxiliary forces and ways in which we can market, recruit, grow and develop that team and possibly could form the core the recruitment base for our community’s policing needs in the future.”
The manager is also in the early stages of recruiting a new police chief. He will conduct brief initial interviews with candidates by phone before short listing and conducting more extensive interviews.
