To open in time for holiday shopping

TOWN OF WALLKILL – The state Department of Transportation selected Sullivan Structures Company of Sullivan County to perform the roadway work that will complete the tunnel under Route 17. The road will connect the Galleria and Orange Plaza shopping centers in the Town of Wallkill and is expected to take a significant amount of traffic off Route 211.
The total cost of the project is $5.4 million and will save the town millions, said Town Supervisor Daniel Depew.
“It saves us probably somewhere between $1.5 million to $2 million as a town and now the project being awarded means that this contractor within a week or two get out there and actually start doing some of the work necessary to prepare them to break ground when the building season opens up,” Depew said.
Five companies bid to do the job, which is expected to be completed in time for the 2015 holiday season.
