MONTICELLO – The State Court of Appeals has refused to hear the case of Monticello Mayor Gordon Jenkins, therefore he will turn himself in and begin to serve a 45 day jail sentence on Tuesday.
He was found guilty early last year of obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct. His attorney, Michael Sussman, appealed the conviction.
Jenkins was found guilty in connection with an incident at his Broadway store where he was accused of striking a police officer. The mayor maintains a local man came to his shop and threatened to kill him.
Jenkins has said he will not resign from office, but would not seek reelection either.
