YONKERS – The 300 clerical employees
of City of Yonkers now have a 10-year contract now that it was approved
by the city council.

The pact calls for a 20 percent salary increase over the life of the agreement
with Local 704 Service Employees International Union. There will be retroactive
payments being paid forward over a four-year period.

Under the agreement, SEIU members will also contribute more to the costs
of their employee health care. The annual contribution for members hired
before September 1999 will double over the course of the contract. New
employees will receive health care coverage after the second full month
of employment and will contribute 10 percent of the cost of a family plan
and 20 percent for an individual plan.

The contract, which is retroactive to 2009 and will expire in 2018, “works
for workers and Yonkers taxpayers,” said Mayor Michael Spano.
