ELLENVILLE – The Nevele Hotel may be
a dead issue as far as casino gaming is concerned, but Ulster County legislators
from the greater Wawarsing area are not giving up on the prospects of
redeveloping the property.
Legislator Craig Lopez said the facilities can still be revived.
“I put a number of ideas out there from a water park to a community college,” Lopez said.  “I am not sure how practical or feasible it will be but it is the beginning of some new ideas. The bottom line is we need industry.”
Lopez said the Ellenville area is in dire need of more jobs.
County Legislator TJ Briggs, who also represents the area, said he will partner with the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency to “turn every stone to bring all available economic development attention to Wawarsing.”
