WAWAYANDA – A 54-year-old Town of
Greeneville man was killed Thursday morning when the 2014 Volkswagen he
was driving on I-84 eastbound slammed into the rear of a state transportation
department dump truck.

State Police said Robert Pascoe, Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene
by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident occurred at the exit 3 interchange in the town of Wawayanda
while a DOT truck was stopped partially in the center median and partially
in the passing lanes.

One state worker was outside the vehicle in the process of retrieving
a deer carcass from the center median. Two more DOT employees were inside
the truck.

Pascoe was driving eastbound in the passing lane and struck the rear of
the state truck pushing it further into the center median.

The VW rolled over and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of the highway.

The eastbound lanes of I-84 were closed for four hours.

At about the same time as that accident, a truck caught fire on I-84 eastbound
in Fishkill, causing authorities to shut down that section of the highway.
Traffic was backed up at a standstill for miles as emergency responders
attended to the fire.
