KINGSTON – A Poughkeepsie man was sentenced to the maximum of 1 1/3 to 4 years state prison with a recommendation of no early release by Ulster County Court Judge Donald Williams. Ja Quan Higgs, 21, aka “Supa” pled guilty to criminal possession of a firearm, prior to summations after a week-long trial in November of last year.
The case arose from an occurrence when at least 15 shots were fired in the parking lot of the “Home” night club located at 3353 Rte. 9W in the Town of Lloyd. One man wounded by a gunshot collapsed in the parking lot of the club. Higgs and an uncharged civilian had fled the parking lot, ran through woods behind the “Home” to North River Side Road, and called a taxi to take them back to Poughkeepsie.  Rosendale Police Department responded to the area and were flagged down by defendant under the mistaken belief they were a taxi.
Higgs has a history of criminal convictions which include Possession of Controlled Substances; Bail Jumping; and Larceny.
